All Kinds of Shoes and a Pecan Scone

It's been a crazy and hectic couple of weeks in the world of Jenna with not much time to stop and think (but plenty time to eat that yummy scone). I did however manage to get my hands on two new pairs of shoesies brand new from eBay which has brightened things up! My Star Wars-esque pumps are originally from Topshop and the nude strappy heels are from Dorothy Perkins, which are being saved for August when I am being a bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding.

This morning I also got to see the first hot air balloon of the year taking off from the park in front of my flat. The sun was just peeping over the hills and it got me all excited for summer. I just can't wait!

Return of the Denim Jacket

A weekend with sun?! Oh Scotland I do love it when you're nice to us pasty skinned hermits! The park beside my house is in full bloom with gorgeous flowers and I couldn't resist sticking a big bow in my hair and taking some snaps! Yesterday also marked the first outing of the year for my denim jacket, I picked this vintage Marc Jacobs one up in a charity shop for £10 4 years ago and I can tell you it's probably the best thing (and bargain!) I've ever bought. When the weather is good enough for it to come out, I am a happy girl.

I styled my big bow (tutorial here) with a New Look dress, Topshop soft brogues and an Urban Outfitters bag which I picked up on eBay. Finished with Estee Lauder bright red lippy.

Last night after the park we went to our favourite little pub and I was lucky enough to stumble upon a singer called Siobhan Wilson who was just starting her live set as we walked in. Close your eyes, have a listen and if you're anything like me you'll feel like you're in some kind of 1940's dream...

Friday has once again come around and everyone seems to be in a much brighter mood...including me! I'm looking forward to a weekend of cosying up in my flat enjoying some much needed sleep, and hopefully a trip to a vintage fair, if I'm lucky.

This week finally felt like spring and it's amazing what a gleam of sun and a sprinkle of daffodils can do for your happiness levels. I think it's fair to say the weather this week has got me going a little flower crazy, but hey, better than being wrapped up in big bulky coats and scarves, right?

Pastels and Jumpsuits

This weekend was spent in bliss, nestled away in the Highlands of Scotland with my nearest and dearest. We got blown about on a windy walk around the loch and then spent the evening eating gorgeous food, drinking wine and playing Articulate by the fire. The girls lost and the boys won but they weren't allowed to gloat for too long!

For the evening meal I wore a black H&M jumpsuit and a pastel pink ASOS jacket with my trusty Matalan strappies and Primark bag. I also recently got a new Makebelieve lipgloss which just looks like glittering diamonds on your lips!

I was brought up in a teeny tiny little village in the North West of Scotland where I spent my childhood Highland Dancing on the pier and playing Kerby outside my house. There is no cinema – unless you count the infamous ‘Screen Machine’, which is basically a lorry which comes to the village every couple of months, parks up for 3 days and opens out into a 50-odd seated “cinema” showing the finest in 4 month old films which are probably already out on DVD. There are no clothes shops and there is no train station.

And I love it :-)

I left home 7 years ago to hit the bright lights of the city, but I do try to make the 4 hour journey back as much as possible – which isn’t too often due to this pesky little 9-5 I have that eats most of my time! The village is absolutely beautiful - cosied away in the hills on the edge of the loch, it really is my go-to place when I just need some time to step away from it all and relax with my family and old school friends.

Last weekend I got a full 3 days at home which were spent drinking endless cups of tea with parents, grandparents and in laws (you can read about my boyfriend’s Mum’s gorgeous cottage here), a run around the hills in gale force winds (it is Scotland afterall), steak and wine night with my Mum and her partner and of course I managed to fit in a wee 3am party…

Saturday’s lazy and hungover outfit consisted of an H&M jumpsuit covered with an H&M cosy jumper and Primark tartan scarf, worn with my trusty Supergas.

Collars and Roses

You have probably guessed by now that I am a big fan of flowers! I love to have flowers in the flat all the time and I am a lucky lady to have someone who is quite partial to coming home with some for me, but I do like to buy them for myself too! You would be shocked at how many bunches of gorgeous flowers are reduced and then thrown out if not sold by the supermarkets. A sell-by date on flowers, why?! I once got a MASSIVE bouquet of flowers for 99p which were reduced from £10.99, they lasted in my vases looking beautiful for over a week! I find it so sad to think about poor little pretty flowers lying in a bin :-(

I love flower prints and this orange and cream rose cardi reminds me of the summer. It's from Tesco would you believe, but is great material and I can't wait to wear it thrown over a sun dress on my summer holiday. 5 months and counting...!

Vintage floral headscarf

As a not-so-natural blonde (I am naturally fair but unfortunately the Marilyn Monroe shade is only possible with the help of some bleach!), a headscarf is my go-to style when my roots are in need of a touch up. I also find this is a great way to look glam when your hair is a bit messy/needing washed and you are short on time to get ready. I know that when I first got in to headscarves, I didn't have a clue how to tie them - it's still a bit of a guessing game sometimes but here is a little tutorial on how to spruce up your hair the vintage way!

Items I use: hairspray, backcomb brush, plenty of kirbygrips and a lovely, quite long thin scarf (mine was thrifted for 50p and put in a hot wash!)

   

Backcomb sections of your hair - I have fine hair so I do the front and both sides separately, then with what's left at the back I fold it up and pin on the back of my head.

The end result is by no means perfect, but I like the way all the sections curl around each other.

Finally, fold up your scarf until it is about 3 inches in width and tie to one side of your head, an inch or two back from your hairline (if you want some hair showing at the front, if not, tie right on your hairline). Then make a big beautiful bow!

Now, I do love a big bow, but normally the bow is a bit too big and bouncy, so I tuck the ends of the bow under the top of the scarf on my head, and then kirbygrib the main bows so they keep their shape. Then hairspray all over, add some good lipstick et voila...vintage chic in ten minutes!

This weekend we FINALLY saw some sun! It was a gorgeous afternoon so my boyfriend and I went out for a walk to get some good old Vitamin D (along with big creamy mochas and chocolate orange cake)
